Summary

Michele Tafoya, a Senate candidate for Minnesota, discusses the state of Minnesota, highlighting widespread frustration among residents regarding local governance. She criticizes Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey for their perceived inaction during the George Floyd riots and recent ICE protests, alleging that police were prevented from intervening effectively. Tafoya connects the ongoing chaos and protests to significant fraud issues, suggesting a deliberate distraction. She also expresses deep concern over the declining quality of Minnesota's education system and the role of 'activist teachers.' Tafoya, a former sports journalist, also touches on the increasing politicization of sports, including the Super Bowl halftime show and the Olympics, and explains her motivation for entering politics to represent 'common sense conservatives' and address these issues.
This discussion offers a critical perspective on Minnesota's political landscape, particularly from a conservative candidate challenging the incumbent narrative. It sheds light on specific grievances of a segment of the population regarding local leadership, law enforcement, financial mismanagement (fraud), and educational decline. The insights provide context for understanding political dissatisfaction and the motivations behind new political candidacies in a state often perceived as progressive.

Takeaways

  • Minneapolis and St. Paul police officers felt prevented from assisting during the George Floyd riots and current ICE-related incidents, leading to avoidable tragedies.
  • Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey are held accountable for the 'chaos' due to their 'far-left' policies and perceived inaction.
  • Allegations of widespread fraud in Minnesota are linked to the current unrest, with suggestions that new protests serve as a distraction.
  • The politicization of sports, including the Super Bowl halftime show and the Olympics, is alienating American viewers and athletes.
  • Minnesota's education system is failing, with less than 50% of students reading or doing math at grade level, despite increased spending.

Insights

1Local Leadership Blamed for Crisis Mismanagement

Michele Tafoya asserts that Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey were 'MIA' during the George Floyd riots and have similarly failed to assist law enforcement during recent ICE-related incidents. She claims police leadership stated that tragedies could have been avoided if they were allowed to use prisons/jails to transfer criminals directly to federal agents.

Tafoya states, 'Governor Walls, you could have assisted. You could have helped. Uh, Mayor Fry, you could have assisted. You could have helped. But just like during the George Floyd riots when both of those guys were MIA, they were not around to do anything. I've spoken with leadership um in the St. Paul Police Department and Minnesota uh police officers who have said this stuff could have been avoided.'

2Fraud Allegations and Political Distraction in Minnesota

Tafoya suggests that the recent surge in protests and 'chaos' in Minnesota might be a deliberate distraction from ongoing investigations into significant fraud. She notes that the fraud conversation quieted down when protests escalated but is now resurfacing as protests wane.

Rubin asks, 'how much of the craziness...is the fraud?' Tafoya responds, 'it's so sad that you you think of things in those terms and it sounds so conspiratorial, but my gosh, they sure have benefited from this. You know, the fraud conversation is not at on the front page like it was...but it's it's now it's it's it's coming back because we are seeing a quieting down of these ICE protests.'

3Declining Education Standards in Minnesota

Tafoya expresses anger over the drastic decline in Minnesota's education system. She notes that fewer than 50% of students can read or do math at grade level, and performance worsens in higher grades. She attributes this to 'activist teachers' and misspent funds, despite increased spending.

Tafoya states, 'education here in Minnesota...It used to be when I moved here 32 years ago, it was like, oh, the education in Minnesota, some of the best in the world and now fewer than 50 less than 50% of our kids can read or do math at grade level.' She adds, 'you've got these activist teachers and you've got a a a group here saying, "We've got to spend more. Our test scores are going down. We got to spend more." But you keep spending more and the results keep declining.'

4Politicization of Sports Alienating Viewers

Tafoya observes that the increasing integration of politics and culture wars into major sporting events like the Super Bowl and the Olympics is making it difficult for former players and general audiences to enjoy them. She cites the all-Spanish Super Bowl halftime show and Olympic athletes expressing disinterest in representing the US as examples.

Tafoya mentions, 'I've talked to former players who are having a hard time watching the Super Bowl. And even one told me he's having a hard time watching the Olympic games because of the politics around it.' Regarding the Super Bowl halftime, she notes, 'the fact that it was all in Spanish was was sort of um I don't know. I I think there were a lot of people who didn't appreciate it.'

Lessons

  • Engage with local law enforcement and community leaders to understand their perspectives on public safety and crisis management, especially when official narratives seem incomplete.
  • Investigate local and state government spending, particularly in areas like education and infrastructure, to ensure taxpayer money is being used effectively and to identify potential fraud.
  • Support political candidates who prioritize 'common sense' approaches to governance, focusing on issues like crime, education, and fiscal responsibility, if current leadership is perceived as failing.
  • Seek out diverse media sources to gain a more complete picture of local events and political dynamics, especially when mainstream coverage is perceived as biased or incomplete.

"This stuff could have been avoided. The tragedies, which were tragedies, could have been avoided had we been allowed to help. Had we been allowed to open our prisons and our jails and let these federal law enforcement agents come take these criminals directly away."

"

"It's a front. It's a front for who he really is. A guy who uh visited China multiple times, took students on trips to China, admires what's going on in China. a guy who let Minneapolis burn along with Jacob Fry...because well his wife loved the smell of the burning tires in the streets."

"

"When you see the coordination, when you see the expensive gear that these people wear, it doesn't look organic to me."

Michele Tafoya
"

"Fewer than 50 less than 50% of our kids can read or do math at grade level. And and it gets worse by the time they're in 11th grade, they're even worse. So the longer they stay in school, the worse it gets. That is unacceptable."
