ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Minneapolis Mother, Renee Good

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was fatally shot by an ICE agent at near point-blank range in Minneapolis. Video footage shows masked agents approaching her vehicle, screaming profanities, and firing three rounds as she attempted to drive away.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry and Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz publicly rejected the Trump administration's claim that the ICE agent acted in self-defense. Mayor Fry explicitly called the federal narrative 'bull,' stating the agent recklessly used power.

Trump administration officials claim the agent acted in self-defense, but local officials, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walls and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry rejected that claim... Having seen the video of myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bull. This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed.

Local officials and activists characterize the deployment of over 2,000 ICE agents to Minnesota as a 'cruelty campaign' causing widespread fear, chaos, and distrust, particularly impacting immigrant and Somali communities. They assert that ICE is not providing safety but actively terrorizing residents.

They are not here to cause safety in this city... What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They're ripping families apart. They're sewing chaos on our streets and in this case, quite literally killing people... No, they're going after everyone, especially those who are in opposition to the cruelty campaign that they are waging through federal ICE agents all across our city.

Minneapolis City Council member Robin Wansley emphasized the need for an independent, local investigation and prosecution of the federal agents involved in Good's murder, arguing that the federal government cannot be trusted to investigate itself.

We need the federal agent responsible for Renee's murder to be arrested and for local ownership of the investigation to proceed because we cannot trust the federal government to investigate themselves when they are the cause of this travesty and harm.

In response to residents' fear of leaving their homes due to ICE activity, City Council member Robin Wansley announced plans to introduce an eviction moratorium. This measure aims to prevent residents from being forced to choose between paying rent and risking encounters with ICE.

My office is going to be bringing forward a eviction moratorum where I hope to earn the support of my fellow colleagues, the mayor as well as our our general public to make sure that our residents can shelter in place safely and don't have to worry about making rent, having to pay their rent, keeping their their roof over their their heads and their famil family's heads.
