Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott authorized the purchase of a 2025 Jeep Grand Wagoneer for $163,495, including significant security upgrades, using taxpayer money. This spending decision was made while the city was addressing an $85 million budget deficit through increased fees and fines, not by cutting spending or taxes.

Baltimore taxpayers spent $163,495 for Scott's new SUV. The vehicle itself cost $98,716, with another $64,779 for upgrades including police lights, sirens, and a microphone. This comes as Baltimore operates under a $4.6 billion budget after closing an $85 million deficit earlier this year with significant increases in fees and fines.

When questioned by a reporter about the high cost, Mayor Scott defended the purchase by stating that other high-ranking officials, like the Governor and President, also have vehicles. He then accused the reporter and their station (Fox 45) of having a 'severe right-wing effort' and a 'racist slant,' implying the questioning was racially motivated because similar inquiries were not made about previous white Republican governors' vehicle upgrades.

Mayor Scott stated, 'I think the residents of Baltimore will understand that the governor of Maryland, the controller of Maryland, the me county executives, we all have vehicles.' He added, 'I think that is in particular funny that you guys are only asking me, right? We can look at the history. I don't remember Larry Hogan ever being asked about whether his we should upgrade his vehicle fleet.' He later directly accused, 'Just because you didn't get the answer that you wanted in your racist slant, that's one thing.'

The host of Black Conservative Perspective strongly criticizes Mayor Scott's response, characterizing it as a common tactic by 'black liberals' or 'black Democrats' to deflect legitimate criticism about spending and accountability by immediately invoking accusations of racism. He argues this prevents meaningful discussion and oversight of public funds.

The host states, 'This is what happens when you deal with these black liberals, these black Democrats. You can't criticize them. You can't ask them any question without being accused of racism.' He adds, 'When they get criticized, the first thing they do is that they pull out the race car. Where you're racist, okay?'
