1Louisiana Redistricting Eliminates Black Congressional District
Louisiana Republicans approved a new congressional map that eliminates one of the state's two majority-Black districts, specifically dissolving Congressman Cleo Fields' Baton Rouge-based district. This move shifts the state's U.S. House delegation from 4-2 Republican to 5-1 Republican, despite the state's 33% Black population. The host and Congressman Fields frame this as a continuation of racial discrimination and a direct attack on Black political representation, enabled by a Supreme Court decision that they argue ignored clear evidence of political, not racial, considerations in the original map drawing.
The new map will shift Louisiana's delegation from 4 to 2 Republican to 5:1 Republican. Joining us right now is Congressman Cleo Fields. Glad to have you here. Uh what's crazy, Congressman, is that the plaintiffs, all this is because of the Louisiana vers decision and the plaintiffs of the Klay decision, they're so uh frankly racist. They didn't did not just want to wipe out your seat. They were claiming to wipe out the seat of Congressman Troy Carter as well.
2Alabama Voids Primary Election to Suppress Black Votes
Alabama is celebrating an 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling allowing them to use a state-drawn senate map from 2021, effectively canceling a primary election held on May 19th. This decision voids previous election results for State Senate Districts 25 and 26, with a new special primary election ordered for August 11th. The host criticizes this as an 'absolutely insane' and 'anti-Black agenda' move, noting the Supreme Court previously deemed it 'too close to the election' to challenge maps in Texas under similar circumstances.
Alabama is now celebrating the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that said that Alabama can use the 2021 Alabama drawn state senate map and not the maps drawn by the federal court. And so here you have the governor, Republican governor, uh, MAGA governor saying Alabama continues winning fair and square in our redistricting battle... Now that the governor has called a special primary election, the May 19th primary election results for state senate district 25 and 26 are now void.
3Trump Suffers Triple Legal Defeats in Federal Court
Donald Trump experienced three significant legal setbacks: a federal judge ordered his name removed from the Kennedy Center, ruling that only Congress can designate its name and blocking a year-long renovation closure; another federal judge temporarily blocked payouts from his $1.7 billion 'anti-weaponization fund,' intended for 'white domestic terrorist reparations'; and a third judge reopened a case regarding his tax returns, citing 'grievous allegations that the deal was premised on deception.' These rulings collectively highlight attempts to subvert legal processes and misuse public institutions for personal and political gain.
He must remove his name from the Kennedy Center. US District Judge Casey Cooper said the board violated the law by adding Trump's name to the historic performing arts venue... Another federal judge temporarily blocked payouts from Donald Trump's anti-weaposization fund, which is really the white domestic terrorist reparations fund... Judge Williams decision came in response to court papers filed on Wednesday by a bipartisan group of 35 former federal judges who urged her to bring the case back to life and dig into the details of the agreement to settle it.
4Congresswoman Frederica Wilson's Strategic Retirement
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-FL), 83, announced her retirement, stating her decision was strategic to avoid being targeted by Governor Ron DeSantis after Florida's new maps were passed. Her retirement is framed as a responsible move, allowing her to continue public service through her '5,000 Role Models of Excellence' project without holding public office, a contrast to other elderly or ailing politicians who remain in power.
She made this decision to retire and she also said that the reason she chose to do so after the maps were passed in Florida is because she did not want Governor Ronda Sanders targeting her. She says she was very strategic when it came uh to announcing her decision.
5NFL Player Controversy Over Trump Rally Appearance
New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart introduced Donald Trump at a rally, sparking outrage from teammate Abdul Carter, a Muslim linebacker, who publicly questioned the appearance. This led to a team meeting and public statements from both players, as well as backup quarterback Jameis Winston, who provided historical context on civil rights and the importance of unity. The incident highlights the tension between personal political alignment and team dynamics, especially when a figure like Trump is perceived as anti-Black.
Trump had a rally in New York and so they had Jackson Dart, the uh starting quarterback for the New York Giants, introduce him. Well, let's just say uh that caused a stir, the linebacker for the Giants, Abdul Carter, he posted a tweet. He said, 'What the hell is this? Is this AI?'
