1US Acquired Russian Microwave Weapon
Undercover agents from the Department of Homeland Security purchased a miniaturized, portable microwave weapon from a Russian criminal network in 2024 for approximately $15 million. This weapon is silent, doesn't create heat, can be concealed, operated remotely, has a range of several hundred feet, and can penetrate windows and drywall. Its vital components were made in Russia, with software being key to shaping its unique pulsed electromagnetic wave.
60 Minutes learned US agents who investigate illicit arms dealers heard that a Russian criminal network was selling a microwave weapon. Our sources tell us undercover agents of the Department of Homeland Security bought the weapon in 2024. The mission cost about $15 million funded by the Pentagon. Our sources tell us this microwave weapon is portable, concealable, and uses relatively little power. It is silent and doesn't create heat like a microwave oven. Our sources say the device is programmable for different scenarios and can be operated by remote control. The range of the beam is several hundred ft. It can penetrate windows and drywall. The vital components were made in Russia. Our sources say the key is not the hardware, but the software. The programming shapes a unique electromagnetic wave that rises and falls abruptly and pulses rapidly.
2Weapon Testing Confirms Injury Consistency
The classified microwave weapon acquired by the US has been tested in a US military lab for over a year. Tests on rats and sheep demonstrated injuries consistent with those observed in human victims of Havana Syndrome.
Our confidential sources tell us the still classified weapon has been tested in a US military lab for more than a year. Tests on rats and sheep show injuries consistent with those seen in humans.
3Allegations of CIA Cover-Up and Dismissal of Victim Accounts
A former CIA officer who resigned from the agency's AHI (Anomalous Health Incidents) investigation unit alleges a 'massive CIA cover-up.' He states the unit's directive was to 'bring down the temperature' and prove incidents were psychosomatic or environmental, rather than state-actor attacks. This included making fun of victims and burying expert reports suggesting microwave energy as the cause.
So, one of the very first things I heard when I arrived at the AHI unit was our job is to bring down the temperature on AHI at headquarters. And that was a surprise to me. It basically was saying hey we're going to work towards this being an atmospheric and environmental issue versus it being a state actor. I'll never forget in one instance a senior member of the AHI unit came into my office and that officer came in and said, 'Yeah, we're going to have a happy hour. We're all going to have simulated AHIs and uh and drink together.' And she basically emulated that she was having a stroke and it making fun of the victims. Dr. David Realman told us his investigations found that one country had done a great deal of research on creating something different, a unique pattern of microwaves that can damage the brain. The idea was shelved by federal officials. Do you believe that your studies were downplayed by the US government? By parts of the US government? Absolutely. And not only downplayed, but dismissed in some cases buried. A highlevel CIA source has told us, and this is a direct quote, 'This is the biggest cover up I've seen in my adult life.' End quote. Do you believe it was a cover up? Yes, I do.
4Russian Military Unit 29155 Linked to Attacks
Investigative journalist Christo Grov identified Russia's top-secret intelligence Unit 29155, known for assassinations and sabotage, as potentially involved. He found an accounting document showing a Unit 29155 officer received a bonus for work on 'potential capabilities of non-lethal acoustic weapons.' Furthermore, a member of this unit, Albert Avaranov, was linked to incidents in Tbilisi, Georgia, where a Justice Department official's wife was severely injured.
Christo Grov believes he knows who's involved. In 2018, Grov was the first to discover the existence of a top secret Russian intelligence unit, which goes by a number 29155. These are people who are trained to be versatile uh assassins and sabotage operators. Grov says he found one that may link 29155 to a directed energy weapon. It's a piece of accounting. An officer of 29155 received a bonus for work on quote potential capabilities of non-lethal acoustic weapons. We've also found that Russia's 29155 may have been present in Tlisi, Georgia when Americans reported incidents there. Sources tell us that an investigation centered on this Russian, Albert Avaranov, his name on travel manifests and phone records appears alongside known members of unit 29155. We believe members of unit 29155 were there in order to facilitate, supervise, or maybe even personally implement attacks on American diplomats and American government officials using an acoustic weapon.
5Targeting of Top US Intelligence Officers with Russia Nexus
Greg Ed Green, who led the Defense Intelligence Agency's investigation, stated that the attacks consistently impacted the top 5-10% performing officers across the DIA. These officers invariably had a 'Russia nexus,' meaning they had worked against or focused on Russia and achieved significant success.
One of the things I started to notice was the caliber of our officer that was being impacted. This wasn't happening to our worst or our middle range officers. This was happening to our top five 10% performing officers across the Defense Intelligence Agency. And consistently there was a Russia nexus. There was some angle where they had worked against Russia, focused on Russia and done extremely well.
Bottom Line
The acquisition of a portable, concealable microwave weapon from a Russian criminal network suggests that this advanced stealth technology may no longer be exclusively controlled by state actors.
This loss of control means the weapon could proliferate globally, potentially falling into the hands of non-state actors, terrorists, or other hostile groups, dramatically increasing the risk of its use worldwide.
The US government must rapidly develop countermeasures, defensive technologies, and international protocols to address the widespread availability and potential misuse of such silent, untraceable directed energy weapons.
Opportunities
Specialized Treatment and Support Services for Directed Energy Weapon Victims
Establish a company focused on providing comprehensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term support for individuals suffering from injuries caused by directed energy weapons. This would include neurological care, physical therapy, psychological support, and potentially legal advocacy, leveraging government contracts and private funding.
Key Concepts
Moral Injury
The profound psychological distress experienced by individuals when they feel betrayed by institutions or leaders they served, especially when their sacrifices or injuries are denied or dismissed. This is exemplified by former CIA officer Mark Polymoropoulos and others who feel abandoned by the US government after suffering debilitating injuries in service.
Information Warfare / Stealth Weaponry
The use of non-kinetic, invisible weapons (like directed energy) to inflict harm, disrupt operations, or create fear and paranoia without leaving traditional forensic evidence. This allows an adversary to achieve strategic objectives (e.g., neutralizing top intelligence officers) while maintaining plausible deniability, making a conventional response difficult.
Lessons
- Advocate for immediate and transparent government acknowledgment of foreign adversary involvement in Havana Syndrome to ensure victims receive appropriate care and recognition.
- Demand increased funding and research into defensive technologies and medical treatments for directed energy weapon injuries, recognizing this as a new frontier in warfare.
- Support legislation that grants Purple Heart status or similar recognition to military and government personnel injured by these attacks, acknowledging their sacrifice in the line of duty.
- Push for a comprehensive, independent investigation into the alleged cover-up within US intelligence agencies to restore trust and ensure accountability for those who dismissed or mocked victims.
Notable Moments
Chris and Heidi's repeated attacks in their Northern Virginia home, leading to severe neurological damage and dissolving bones (osteolysis) for Heidi.
This highlights the severe, physical nature of the injuries and demonstrates that attacks are occurring on US soil, not just overseas, directly impacting the lives of high-level intelligence personnel.
A former CIA officer's testimony about the AHI unit's directive to 'bring down the temperature' on the issue and making fun of victims, leading to his resignation.
This exposes a profound institutional failure and alleged moral corruption within a key intelligence agency, indicating a systemic effort to dismiss the reality of the attacks rather than investigate them seriously.
The acquisition of a miniaturized microwave weapon from a Russian criminal network by US Homeland Security agents.
This is a pivotal moment, providing concrete evidence of the existence and accessibility of such a weapon, directly validating the long-held suspicions of victims and experts, and contradicting previous government skepticism.
The wife of a Justice Department official identifying Albert Avaranov, linked to Russia's Unit 29155, as the man she saw outside her home in Tbilisi shortly after being attacked.
This provides a direct, eyewitness link between a specific Russian intelligence unit member and an alleged attack, strengthening the case for Russian involvement and the deliberate nature of these incidents.
Greg Ed Green, former DIA investigator, stating that top 5-10% performing officers with a 'Russia nexus' were consistently targeted.
This suggests a strategic pattern of targeting highly valuable intelligence assets involved in Russian operations, indicating a deliberate effort to neutralize key US capabilities.
Quotes
"The most plausible explanation for a subset of these cases was a form of radio frequency or microwave energy."
"Our job is to bring down the temperature on AHI at headquarters. And that was a surprise to me. So bringing down the temperature is not hey let's go after the issue and find out what's going on. It became very much a um emotional and almost kind of like a propaganda type thing."
"This is a massive CIA cover up and I and I'll say I say this with great regret. It's an organization that I loved."
"This is the biggest cover up I've seen in my adult life."
"If we acknowledge that this was a state actor that was doing this, it is essentially a declaration of war against the United States, which has to have a response from the United States government. In my opinion, I don't know that the appetite was there to respond to the Russians at that time."
"I'm here because I'm tired of the gaslighting that keeps happening from the US government. I'm tired of this yo-yoing because I'm watching new colleagues and friends that I've trained with and friends that I've known for years that are being sent to these countries and coming back a shell of their former selves. We need to help them and we need to stop this."
