LEMON DROP | Congressman Ro Khanna on Pam Bondi's Firing: 'Good Riddance'

Congressman Khanna states that Pam Bondi's firing was primarily due to her 'Epstein coverup' and her misleading statements about the extent of released documents. Khanna mentions Bondi 'basically lied to the American people,' claiming 'nothing more to see' regarding Epstein files, only for 'three million documents' to later emerge. Trump, being a 'good reader of public opinion,' recognized her 'mishandling' and 'political liability'.

Khanna asserts that the passage of the Epstein Transparency Act and congressional efforts to hold Bondi in contempt were direct causes of her firing. He frames this as a demonstration of Congress's ability to hold the executive branch accountable, even against loyalists.

Khanna states, 'I don't think this would have happened if it weren't for the passage of the Epstein Transparency Act. If it wasn't for us holding her in contempt... calling to impeach her.' He adds, 'our legislation... literally led to Donald Trump firing his own attorney general.'

To overcome the Republican dominance of the news cycle, Khanna advises Democrats to focus on a few resonant themes: 'anti-Epstein class' (elite impunity), 'anti-war,' and 'pro-working class' (economic relief). He believes these messages can appeal to disaffected Trump voters and secure broader support.

Khanna suggests, 'Epstein is one of them... We should be hammering this as a sign of elite impunity.' He adds, 'We should be anti-war... we are the pro-working class. Where are our plans to get your gas bill lower, to get your electricity bill lower, to get your child care bill lower?'

Khanna argues that a future administration cannot simply 'move on' from past lawlessness. He insists on investigating and prosecuting individuals, including those in the Justice Department, who engaged in political prosecutions or covered up crimes, stating that 'there has to be accountability before there can be reconciliation.'

Khanna states, 'the next administration needs to say if you were an ICE agent and you shot American citizens, we're going to prosecute you... if you were part of a justice department... and engaged in political prosecutions or engaged in a cover up... we're going to prosecute you.'
