Hebrews 1: Jesus Like You’ve Never Seen

God, who previously spoke through prophets in various ways, has now, in these last days, spoken definitively through His Son. This signifies a massive shift: Jesus is not merely another messenger but the ultimate, complete expression of God's heart and message, fulfilling and perfecting all prior revelations.

God who at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets has in these last days spoken to us by his son.

Jesus is appointed 'heir of all things,' encompassing everything in heaven, on earth, and beneath the earth. This title denotes His full authority, ownership, and dominion. Furthermore, God 'made the worlds' through Him, establishing Jesus as the eternal, uncreated Creator of space, time, matter, and all existence.

Beyond creation, Jesus 'upholds all things by the word of his power,' actively maintaining the universe's function moment by moment. He also 'by himself purged our sins,' demonstrating His unique power and love by accomplishing salvation alone, then sitting at the right hand of God, signifying His finished work and eternal authority.

and upholding all things by the word of his power... when he had by himself purged our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.

Jesus is 'so much better than the angels,' possessing a more excellent name and divine status. God never called an angel 'Son' or granted them His throne. Instead, God commands 'all the angels of God worship him,' confirming Jesus' divine nature, as worship belongs to God alone. Angels are servants; Jesus is the Son.

Having become so much better than the angels... Let all the angels of God worship him.

God the Father declares to the Son, 'Your throne, oh God, is forever and ever.' Unlike creation, which will 'perish' and 'grow old like a garment,' Jesus 'remains' and is 'the same,' with His years never failing. This highlights Jesus' unchanging, self-existing, and everlasting nature, confirming His eternal reign.

But to the son, he says, 'Your throne, oh God, is forever and ever'... They will perish, but you remain. They will all grow old like a garment.

In contrast to Jesus, angels are 'ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation.' This clarifies their role as servants and helpers to believers, emphasizing Jesus' supreme position: He sits on the throne, reigns, and commands, while angels serve and obey Him and His heirs.

But to which of the angels has he ever said, 'Sit at my right hand till I make your enemies your foottool?' Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
