Teen Beaten to Death by Family Inside Church

The Word of Life Church began under Jerry Irwin, a self-proclaimed prophet who convinced followers he had a direct line to God. He exploited members financially, demanding 10% of their salary, encouraging them to mortgage properties and take out lines of credit, and using their labor to build his family's residence within the church building. Services became less about scripture and more about public humiliation and shaming to maintain control.

Jerry skewed things from the Bible in order to convince those people who were members of his cult to actually build the Irwin's residence on the third floor. They worked hours and put in a lot of money creating this apartment for the Irwins. 10% of their salary was expected to be provided to the church. Parishioners were mortgaging their properties and taking out lines of credit to provide that tithing. Services became more about ways he could publicly humiliate these parishioners.

After Jerry's death, his daughter Tiffany took over, intensifying the cult's destructive mind control. She was obsessed with 'witchcraft' and 'demons' possessing people, particularly linking sexual feelings to demonic influence. She redefined 'molestation' to include innocent physical contact, creating an environment of extreme paranoia and fear around any intimacy, even between siblings or children.

Tiffany Irwin, she was the cult leader. She controlled these people. She was obsessed with witchcraft and demons possessing people. If you had sexual feelings, it was because a demon possessed you. She redefined words. So like molestation would include looking at somebody inappropriately. Brothers and sisters couldn't hold hands and the younger children couldn't sit on an older child's lap or change diapers. That to Tiffany was molestation.

Tiffany developed unacknowledged romantic and sexual feelings for Luke Leonard, which she rationalized as him 'practicing witchcraft' to induce impure thoughts in her. Luke, a smart teenager, expressed a desire to leave the church and began attending another church with his sister Crystal. This act of defiance was seen by Tiffany as 'cheating' and a direct threat to her control, leading her to orchestrate a brutal 'counseling session' as punishment.

Tiffany kept a journal and it seemed by her diary entries that she came to have feelings now romantic feelings for Luke. She was convinced that Luke practiced witchcraft and that he would get into people's heads somehow or another, getting along with the devil and to get into my head and to make me think these impure thoughts. Luke skipped church one day and went to a different church with his sister Crystal. Tiffany saw that as a form of cheating on her. And there was a penalty that Lucas had to pay for that.

On October 11th, Tiffany instructed the entire Leonard family to stay for a 'counseling session.' She accused Luke and Christopher of sexual abuse against younger females, including their nieces. Under intense physical and psychological duress, the boys confessed to fabricated crimes, such as molesting a 2-year-old, in a desperate attempt to make the beating stop. Sarah Ferguson, Luke's half-sister, was a primary aggressor, using a power cord to inflict severe injuries, particularly to their genitalia.

Pastor Tiffany instructed the entire Leonard family to stay behind for a counseling session. She confronted them saying that Lucas and Christopher were sinning, that they were sexually abusing females in the community. You need to beat this out of them. You got to get rid of this demon. They started to admit to things that I don't believe they had ever done. Admissions made by Lucas that he sexually abused his stepsister's kids. They then said that they raped this little girl who was 2 years old in the crib. Sarah Ferguson was trying to damage their genitalia to the point that they would never be able to use it in their life. She was vicious in her attack.

Luke was left overnight without medical attention and died from his injuries. Christopher, also severely beaten, would have died without hospitalization. The family initially tried to cover up the incident, claiming Luke was jumped on the street, and Tiffany ordered the destruction of a recording of the 'counseling session.' However, through persistent police interrogation and the cooperation of an insider, the full extent of the cult's control and the family's involvement in the beating was revealed, leading to multiple convictions, including Tiffany Irwin for manslaughter.

Luke was left overnight. No medical attention was given to him. He wasn't even brought a cup of water. Bruce drove and he just went flying into the hospital. Christopher, when he was located, he was inside of the church, had enough damage that he had to be hospitalized. Had he not received medical attention, he would have died. The order to destroy that SD card came directly from Tiffany. Sarah Ferguson was convicted of manslaughter. Tiffany ultimately plead guilty. Tiffany was the one in the room in charge who could have sent everybody home at any moment.
