Deep State Sleeper Cells & Never-Before-Told Hunter Biden Laptop Details Revealed | Miranda Devine

Quick Read

Miranda Devine details how the Hunter Biden laptop story, initially suppressed by Big Tech and intelligence agencies, exposed a deep-seated censorship operation and reshaped the landscape of modern journalism.
The Hunter Biden laptop was deliberately suppressed by Big Tech platforms, acting on warnings from the FBI about 'Russian disinformation.'
Senior intelligence officials, including former CIA directors, falsely labeled the laptop contents as a Russian operation to influence the 2020 election.
Mainstream journalism has lost its way, becoming activist-driven and financially reliant on non-news content, while alt-media gains credibility and audience.

Summary

Miranda Devine, the New York Post journalist who broke the Hunter Biden laptop story, recounts how Rudy Giuliani and his lawyer, Bob Costello, struggled to find a journalist willing to publish the laptop's contents just weeks before the 2020 election. Devine explains that the FBI had possessed the laptop since October 2019 and knew its authenticity. Upon publication, the story was immediately censored by Twitter and Facebook, with the New York Post's account locked for over two weeks. This suppression, later revealed to be orchestrated by the FBI through 'pre-bunking' warnings to tech companies about 'Russian disinformation,' transformed a political corruption story into a major censorship scandal. Devine also details the 'Dirty 51' letter, signed by former intelligence officials, falsely labeling the laptop as Russian disinformation, a letter that was surprisingly approved by then-CIA Director Gina Haspel. She critically assesses the decline of mainstream journalism, which she argues has become activist-driven and financially unstable, contrasting it with the rise of alt-media and podcasting, which, while offering more 'real' conversations, often lack traditional editorial oversight. Devine also offers a critical perspective on Tucker Carlson's post-Fox career, attributing his shift towards controversial content to the loss of his production team and an inflated ego.
This episode reveals a coordinated effort by federal intelligence agencies and major tech platforms to suppress information during a critical election, directly impacting free speech and public trust in both media and government institutions. It highlights the erosion of journalistic integrity in mainstream outlets and the complex, often unchecked, landscape of alternative media, forcing consumers to navigate a highly polarized and manipulated information environment.

Insights

1The Hunter Biden Laptop's Origin and Initial Suppression

Rudy Giuliani and his lawyer, Bob Costello, faced significant difficulty finding a journalist willing to publish the Hunter Biden laptop's contents due to its 'hot to handle' nature just three weeks before the 2020 election. The New York Post ultimately published the story, focusing on evidence of Joe Biden's alleged corruption, not Hunter's personal issues. Within hours, Twitter and Facebook censored the story, blocking its transmission and locking the New York Post's account for over two weeks, transforming the political corruption narrative into a major censorship scandal.

Rudy and his lawyer, Bob Costello, were desperately seeking a journalist who would take Hunter Biden's laptop. They tried a few people and they were reluctant. You know, it was too hot to handle, really. ... What happened really within hours of our publishing was that Twitter and Facebook basically censored the story. New York Post account was locked for over 2 weeks until just a couple of days before the election. That kind of elevated the story like it went from just a really good political corruption story on the eve of the election to OMG this is a huge censorship story.

2FBI and Intelligence Agency Collusion in Censorship

The FBI was directly involved in the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story. Having possessed the laptop since December 2019 and knowing its authenticity, the FBI 'pre-bunked' the story to Big Tech companies, warning them to look out for a 'hack and leak operation by the Russians' related to Hunter Biden. This false pretense led platforms like Facebook to throttle the story. Further, Anthony Blinken orchestrated the 'Dirty 51' letter, signed by 50 former intelligence officials including five former CIA directors, falsely claiming the laptop was Russian disinformation. This letter was even approved by then-CIA Director Gina Haspel, despite internal CIA concerns about its political nature.

We found out later that the FBI was behind that. They had been pre-bunking our story to the big tech companies in meetings uh before the election... Zuckerberg admitted that... Elon Musk bought Twitter, opened Twitter files, and people like Matt Taibbe and Michael Shelonburgger and Barry Weiss went in there and uncovered the the a whole cell of FBI and CIA operatives who had been hired by the big tech platforms, obviously planted there, to uh basically control information... we had the dirty 51 letter which was um the letter by uh instigated by Anthony Blinken... he got 50 of his colleagues to sign on to this very dishonest letter that said that um that the Hunter Biden's laptop and therefore our reporting was a Russian disinformation operation... it came to the CIA's number three at the time, a man by the name of Andrew McCrus... he walked across the corridor at CIA headquarters at Langley and gave it to Gina Haspel who was then Trump's CIA director and she gave that letter the green light even though it had been deemed to be way too political.

3Transformation of Journalism and Media Landscape

Mainstream 'elite' journalism, exemplified by The New York Times and Washington Post, has 'lost its way,' becoming consumed by identity politics and activist-driven reporting. These outlets are struggling financially, with news sections not generating revenue, relying instead on non-journalistic content like Wordle or cooking. In contrast, the New York Post, a 'proud tabloid' with a conservative opinion side and factual news, has become profitable and is expanding. The rise of alt-journalism and podcasting is morphing into 'real journalism,' offering politicians a more authentic platform for longer interviews and reaching millions, often surpassing traditional news viewership. However, many podcasters operate without the traditional editorial checks and balances found in established news organizations.

I mean, I think the New York Post is still what it's always been. I mean, it's a very proud to be a tabloid... the New York Times like all journalism has just totally lost its way. I think like all elite journalism maybe... eaten up by identity politics and I think destroyed itself... people don't understand does not make money for them they're making money out of Wordle and cooking and crosswords stuff that is not journalism. Washington Post has just you know almost on its last legs... I think alt journalism is morphing into real journalism. you know po uh I think the last election 24 presidential election was really the podcast election. ... you now have this strange situation where you've got podcast hosts uh getting enormous um millions of viewers bigger than um you know Fox News or CNN sometimes um and and and yet there is no checks or balances.

4Critique of Tucker Carlson's Post-Fox Trajectory

Miranda Devine, who was friendly with Tucker Carlson and appeared on his Fox show, observes a significant shift in his independent podcasting. She believes Carlson, genuinely anti-war, felt 'betrayed' by the neocon world regarding the Iraq War. However, she attributes his current controversial content, including playing with 'anti-semitic tropes' and interviewing 'fools' as legitimate, to the loss of his 'incredible crew' from Fox, his resulting isolation, and an inflated ego. Devine suggests that the massive reach of podcasting can lead even humble individuals to become egotistical, causing them to prioritize views over journalistic integrity, even when they possess immense talent for other topics.

Tucker, um, who I, you know, was very friendly with when he was at Fox, I was on his show all the time. ... I don't recognize um what's happened with his his, you know, podcast now because um I think, you know, he comes from a good place, which is he genuinely is anti-war... But what's happened, uh, I think was at Fox, he had an incredible crew around him. ... I think Tucker suffers from having lost those people. Obviously when he left Fox he uh couldn't keep them on and he's pretty isolated. ... there's no excuse for his uh playing with these anti-semitic tropes and for interviewing people who are obviously um just uh lying about Israel and its role. ... I just think Tucker is so talented and such a good guy. Um, I I find it really sad that he's um just doubling down and doubling down when he does podcasts that are not on these topics, like on privacy or something. He he's so brilliant, but he doesn't get as many views.

Bottom Line

The historical infiltration of newsrooms by intelligence operatives has evolved into 'spies in big tech,' directly influencing information control and election outcomes.

So What?

This suggests a systemic, long-standing mechanism for information manipulation that has adapted to modern communication channels, making it harder for the public to discern truth and potentially compromising democratic processes.

Impact

Develop platforms or journalistic practices specifically designed to identify and counter state-sponsored or politically motivated information control within tech platforms, potentially through open-source intelligence or decentralized verification networks.

The shift in journalism education from 'nuts and bolts' reporting to 'activist' training has fundamentally compromised mainstream media's objectivity and financial viability.

So What?

This explains the ideological homogeneity and financial struggles of traditional news outlets, creating a vacuum for alternative media but also risking the quality and impartiality of public information.

Impact

Establish or support journalism schools and training programs that prioritize traditional, fact-based reporting, ethical sourcing, and critical thinking, distinct from activist-driven approaches, to rebuild trust in professional journalism.

Lessons

  • Be skeptical of mainstream media, particularly reports relying heavily on anonymous sources, as they may be used to 'launder lies' or push political narratives.
  • Diversify news consumption to include alternative media and podcasts, but critically evaluate sources for integrity, charisma, and potential ideological biases, as they often lack traditional editorial checks.
  • Recognize that censorship efforts, even by intelligence agencies, can inadvertently elevate suppressed stories, transforming them from political scandals into major free speech issues.

Quotes

"

"The focus was the corruption, which Joe Biden denied. Even if he had a plausible explanation for meeting with all these business partners from China, Ukraine, Russia, of his son, who was getting paid millions of dollars from these different countries that are many adversaries of America. He was up to his neck in it."

"Among those 51 supposedly former intelligence officials were five former directors or acting directors of the CIA. They believe every word that's in there and it fuels their Trump derangement and it's really sick."

"

"I think alt journalism is morphing into real journalism. ... in an hour-long interview with say Donald Trump or any of his cabinet members and you get a feel for the real person beyond the spin that you don't get in a short sound bite or a short you know grab or press conference."
