The hikers were pursued by a creature that made both animal and human sounds. One woman sustained a deep scratch from the beast. A local elder identified the figures as shape-shifting brujos who 'own' the territory.

Natalia, working in a santería shop, became the target of an older man (Andrés) who frequented the store. Despite finding him unattractive, she developed an overwhelming, involuntary attraction and experienced vivid, disturbing dreams of sexual assault and even pregnancy. Her boss, recognizing the signs of black magic, intervened with the help of a client, leading to Andrés's expulsion and the gradual cessation of the spell's effects.

His godfather, a powerful brujo, intervened to protect him, but the counter-spell tragically rebounded onto the narrator's son (who was not his biological child) and then onto the godfather himself, who was under a curse that caused him to suffer the effects of any harm he inflicted through magic. Both the son and the brujo died, and the narrator's father also died from the initial curse.

The godfather revealed the wife's intent to use black magic to kill the narrator's parents and then him for inheritance. The godfather, a brujo, explained he accepted the job because he was cursed to suffer the consequences of his own spells, seeking death. A paternity test confirmed the child was not the narrator's.
