Sabrina Carpenter Talks Arresting Celebs at Her Short n' Sweet Tour, Goes Day Drinking with Seth

Sabrina Carpenter received multiple Grammy nominations for an album she created out of 'pure love and friendship.' She emphasizes that the Album of the Year nomination holds particular significance because the entire album takes considerably longer to produce than a single song, reflecting a deeper creative investment.

Carpenter states, 'I made this album out of pure love and friendship and inspiration. And I was just like, I was actually really, really shocked.' She adds, 'The album definitely takes longer than all the other ones. Right? Because a whole album takes a lot longer than one song. So the album means so much to me.'

The production of Carpenter's 'Manchild' music video was exceptionally ambitious, requiring two initial days of shooting, followed by a third day to achieve the desired 'crazy enough' visual effect. The shoot involved 37 different outfits and resulted in a physical injury when Carpenter fell into a cactus.

Carpenter describes the video as 'the video in my head when I was writing the song,' and mentions, 'We shot 37 outfits.' She recounts, 'I fell in a cactus... I just, for the rest of the day was picking [stuff] out of...' and 'We went back, and we shot a third day. That was probably my biggest shoot I've ever done.'

During her 70-show tour, Sabrina Carpenter maintained a unique tradition of 'arresting' celebrity guests backstage. A notable instance was Janet Jackson attending a London show, which surprised Carpenter due to Jackson's busy schedule and the perceived difficulty of finding tour dates.

Carpenter states, 'over the last 70 shows I arrested, I don't know if you know, I do that.' She then details, 'one night it was in London, and, um, they told me that Janet Jackson was coming to the show, and I was just like, 'She's not busy, like with something else?''

Carpenter describes the intense pressure of opening SNL's 50th anniversary show with Paul Simon, admitting they both felt 'scared [expletive].' She also details the 'marathon' experience of hosting and performing on a regular SNL episode, which involved rapid costume changes, physical strain, and vocal challenges.

Regarding SNL 50th, Carpenter says, 'I felt like I had something in common with Paul Simon, which was that we were both scared [expletive] and we were about to open the SNL 50.' For her own SNL episode, she notes, 'that week was a marathon... I was like in and out of wigs every 30 seconds, my shoes were flying, I got my arm was pulled out of my socket.'

Carpenter reveals a tour ritual where a 'fireplace shot' on stage would sometimes contain water and sometimes tequila. She appreciated this unpredictability, stating it kept her 'on her toes' and allowed her to see if she could handle being thrown off during a performance.

Carpenter explains, 'The fireplace, where I never knew if the shot would be water or tequila.' She adds, 'it was tequila once... it keeps me on my toes. And then I just really like, never know what I'm going to get with each show. And as a performer, I like to be – I like to be thrown off sometimes.'
