Philip Jackson, a Tulsa Flyer journalist, reported on community leaders' fears that the decision could reverse progress made since a landmark 1989 NAACP lawsuit. Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones detailed how he was stripped of committee assignments due to protesting a 'MAGA power grab' involving racial gerrymandering.

There is growing frustration among Black leaders regarding the Democratic Party's long-standing neglect of Southern states, viewing them as politically inexpedient. This neglect is seen as enabling Republican efforts to suppress Black votes and dismantle political power, particularly through racial gerrymandering. Critics argue that many progressive allies prioritize other issues over specific African-American rights, failing to provide robust support where it's most needed.

Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones stated that 'weak ass white Democrats' need to 'get in the game' and act as allies. Robert Patillo criticized the progressive base for not making voting rights a central agenda item, often prioritizing issues like animal rights or environmental concerns over African-American issues, which he argues are seen as 'niche black issues.'
