Simmons states, 'I didn't think I ever had the right to get high or drunk or smoke cigarettes because I didn't think I had the right to break my mother's heart after she raised me by herself.'

Simmons' early experiences delivering newspapers at age 12, earning $35 a week, solidified his belief in the capitalist free market economy. He views it as the primary means for anyone to achieve success and rise above adversity through diligent effort.

Simmons explains, 'I understood that this capitalist free market economy was the route... of achieving Anybody can achieve anything.' He saved $23,000 post-tax and lent his mother money for a house down payment.
