Alexis Crawford, a 21-year-old Clark Atlanta University senior, was reported missing on November 1, 2019, after her family couldn't reach her. This was highly uncharacteristic, as she normally communicated daily. Her phone was off, and her credit cards showed no activity, indicating she didn't leave voluntarily.

Family members spoke with Alexis on October 30; she seemed in good spirits. She missed class and work on November 1, and calls to her phone went straight to voicemail. Her phone was shut off before 3:00 AM on October 31, and no credit card activity occurred.

Three days before her disappearance, Alexis reported to Grady Health Hospital that she was sexually assaulted by Baron Brantley, the boyfriend of her roommate and best friend, Jordan Jones. The rape kit confirmed Brantley's DNA was present. Jordan initially called 911 to report her car stolen by Brantley, not the assault.
